Lucy Letby: Inquests to open into deaths of five babies murdered by former nurse
Inquests opening at Cheshire Coroners' Court will examine deaths of five infants linked to Letby amid ongoing inquiries into hospital failings and contested evidence.
- On February 4, the coroner opened inquests for babies C, E, I, O and P at Cheshire Coroners' Court, then adjourned proceedings pending the Thirlwall Inquiry.
- Lucy Letby, 36, is serving 15 whole-life orders after convictions for seven murders and multiple attempted murders at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where prosecutors alleged she harmed babies by injecting air, force-feeding, poisoning with insulin, and inflicting traumatic blows.
- The CPS reviewed allegations involving nine children but declined further charges, while Cheshire Constabulary said it submitted files and believed the evidence met the standard; an investigation into hospital leadership continues with three former senior leaders at the Countess of Chester currently on bail.
- Reporting restrictions remain in force worldwide under Mrs Justice Steyn, barring publication of babies' or parents' names, while Sarah revealed, `You need to come right now` after being jolted awake.
- The documentary features interviews with victims' families and experts including Dr Shoo Lee and a 14-member international expert panel who challenge the prosecution's medical evidence.
