- On Wednesday, the Pakistani government appointed Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the first Secretary General of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement . Mahmood will lead the alliance's General Secretariat, being established in Riyadh.
- Formalized on August 7, 2026, the MJDA established a trilateral security framework between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. The pact mandates that an armed attack against any one of the three nations is considered an attack against all three.
- Officials finalized the secretariat's establishment during the inaugural Strategic Political and Defence Committee meeting in Istanbul on August 31. Pakistan will hold the Secretary General post for an initial three-year term.
- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, condemned recent attacks near Makkah Al-Mukarramah. He reaffirmed that Pakistan stands unwaveringly with the Kingdom in safeguarding its security.
- Amid ongoing security concerns in the Middle East, the alliance aims to strengthen collective deterrence. Pakistan has previously deployed about 8,000 troops, fighter jets, and air-defence systems to support Saudi security.
