LPGA Tour Announces Plans for an Event in Hong Kong Beginning Next Year
The inaugural Futu Ladies World Championship will replace the Blue Bay LPGA and draw a 78-player field for the richest LPGA event in Asia.
On Wednesday, the LPGA Tour and presenting sponsor Moomoo announced the inaugural Futu Ladies World Championship, scheduled for March 4-7 at The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club in Hong Kong.
A field of 78 players will compete for a $3.4 million purse, the highest of any LPGA Tour event in Asia.
Replacing the Blue Bay LPGA in Hainan, the tournament is backed by Futu Holdings and organized by Asia-based sports and entertainment company SMK.
"Our fans across Asia have always been some of the most passionate," LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler said, noting the course meets championship-calibre requirements.
Following the Honda LPGA Thailand and the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore, this event completes the Tour's spring swing across Asia.
