Loons to celebrate decade in MLS with Atlanta United rematch
Roughly 15,000 fans will get a commemorative poster as the Loons honor former players and Adrian Heath before the anniversary match.
Minnesota United hosts Atlanta United at Allianz FieldStream on Wednesday for a 10-year anniversary match, with both clubs marking their shared MLS entry in 2017. Roughly 15,000 fans will receive commemorative posters.
Flashback to 2017, when Atlanta defeated Minnesota 6-1 in the Loons' first home game at TCF Bank Stadium. MNUFC holds a 2-0-4 record against the Five Stripes in MLS play, including a 2019 Open Cup final loss.
MNUFC is winless in eight matches after a draw on Saturday, while Atlanta snapped a seven-match skid with a 2-1 win last weekend. Head coach Cameron Knowles faces squad absences, with Peter Stroud out and Nectar Triantis and Nico Romero questionable.
Russian attacker Aleksei Miranchuk leads Atlanta with 10 goal contributions, while newcomer Marcus Caldeira is poised for a bigger role for the Loons. Aziel Jackson, who signed last week, is expected to be on the game-day roster.
Head coach Cameron Knowles said, "The history of the club, dating back to the Kicks in the 1970s... it's a storied history of soccer in Minnesota." Alumni will gather on the Great Lawn before the match to meet fans.
