Loons’ Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad leaving for Austin FC
Austin FC is hiring him after an open search since May, while Minnesota United has gone nine MLS matches without a win.
On Thursday, Minnesota United FC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad is set to become the new sporting director for Austin FC, multiple sources told the Pioneer Press.
During his tenure, El-Ahmad managed a department that brought in key players like Joaquin Pereyra, Anthony Markanich, and Nectar Triantis, but also oversaw notable misses with Victor Eriksson, Matus Kmet, and Dominik Fitz.
The Loons currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with 25 points, mired in a nine-match winless streak as El-Ahmad departs.
Hank Stebbins, the club's head of recruitment, roster strategy, and negotiations, is expected to succeed El-Ahmad on an interim basis as Minnesota navigates the Sept. 2 transfer deadline.
Austin FC has actively sought a new front office leader since parting ways with Rodolfo Borrell in May, filling the vacancy the El-Ahmad hire addresses.
