Long Island Woman Rescued After Plunging Into Hole in Her Backyard on Her Birthday
Neighbors heard her screams and called 911 as Danielle Tammone was pulled from about 8 feet underground after the backyard collapse.
On Sept 17, Danielle Tammone fell 8 feet into a hole that suddenly opened in her Bohemia backyard on her 47th birthday.
Trapped for about 30 minutes underground, Tammone feared for her life, saying, "People suffocate and they die, so I thought that at first."
Neighbors Maggie and Christine Chanowsky heard her cries and initially searched the shed before finding Tammone, saying, "At first, we thought she was in the shed or something."
Firemen and EMTs successfully extracted Tammone after neighbors called 911, with Tammone praising rescuers: "Firemen, cops, ambulance, special unit, EMTs- they were wonderful."
The incident underscores the unexpected dangers of ground collapses in residential areas, turning what should have been a celebration into a life-threatening emergency for Tammone.
