Dramatic Pictures Show Plumes of Smoke Billowing Across M5 After Fire
National Highways said delays topped 60 minutes as fire crews tackled the blaze and six miles of congestion built up.
The M25 is closed anti-clockwise between junctions five and six near Clacket Lane Services in Westerham following a lorry fire. Authorities shut the road at 5:15 p.m. after the blaze broke out shortly after 4 p.m.
National Highways confirmed traffic stopped on the M25 in Kent as Firefighters arrived to fight flames engulfing the green HGV. Traffic cameras documented the emergency response at the scene.
Motorists face delays of more than 60 minutes on the approach to the incident, with congestion currently stretching six miles. Officials work to clear the wreckage and safely reopen the Motorway.
Separately, a Van fire on the M5 in Devon near Cullompton also caused significant disruption. Somerset Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze, leaving the vehicle 100% damaged and affecting 30% of nearby hedgerow.
National Highways has provided no estimated time for when the M25 carriageway will reopen near Westerham. Commuters are advised to monitor official updates as recovery operations continue at the closure site.
