10-Year-Old Border Collie Found 1,000 Miles From Home in North Carolina
Shelter staff scanned the 10-year-old Border Collie’s microchip and found his owner after a two-week search, officials said.
A 10-year-old Border Collie named Rio reunited with his owner, Melissa, after being found in Greensboro, North Carolina, more than 1,000 miles from his Oklahoma home.
Guilford County Animal Services staff discovered Rio as a stray and scanned him for a microchip, revealing his owner had been searching for him for two weeks.
Melissa booked the first available flight to North Carolina, determined not to leave Rio in the shelter after their separation.
Rio is now safely back in Oklahoma with his family and his 9-month-old canine sister, who welcomed him home.
GCAS mandates every adopted animal leaves with a microchip and staff perform multiple scans during stays to ensure successful reunions.
A Nebraska family has been reunited with a dog that ran away from them five years ago. He was found about a thousand miles away in Indiana, and some foreign benefactors helped him get a microchip.
