The 37-year-old Welsh driver took advantage of a mistake made by his rival Oliver Solberg in the last round of the season in Sardinia on Sunday, to finally get the long-lost crown.
After a series of other places and disappointments, Elfyn Evans finally won the World Rally Championship title. The Briton kept his cool until the very end of the season-ending Rally of Sardinia.
The World Rally Championship championship battle culminated in a dramatic climax as Oliver Solberg crashed out just two corners before the finish.
Oliver Solberg had the World Cup gold in his own hands with only seconds left to finish. Then the Swede drove off the road and lost the gold to Briton Elfyn Evans.
