Lithuanian prosecutors said Tuesday they have opened a pretrial investigation into possible human trafficking after reviewing information revealed in recently published correspondence of US financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a joint communiqué, the Attorney General's Office and the Lithuanian Police have reported a "preliminary investigation" for alleged "trafficking" offences in relation to citizens of the Republic of Lithuania involved in the Epstein network, "after a more detailed assessment" of the documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice.
As announced by the Prosecutor General's Office, following a detailed assessment of the initial data, a pre-trial investigation into human trafficking has been launched.
