Cinologists of the Lithuanian State Border Protection Service (SOGGL) with official dogs took part in the detention of two groups of illegal migrants on the territory of Latvia on Monday and Tuesday.
State Border Guard Service (SBS) dog handlers with service dogs helped detain two large groups of illegal migrants in Latvia – 55 people, the SBS reported. During one of the incidents, when border guards recorded a breach of the physical barrier, it was determined that 39 people who had intruded into Latvian territory had fled into the interior of the country.
The Lithuanian government on Wednesday approved changes to the plan for the construction of protective engineering structures on the border with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region of Russia, which provide for the creation of a new defensive strip.
On Monday afternoon, Latvian officials recorded an illegal crossing of the state border. The dog handler of the Varėna Border Guard Unit of the State Border Service of the Republic of Latvia (VSAT) G. Žagunis Border Guard with his assigned service dog, the Belgian Shepherd Chico, soon recorded traces at the scene and led the officers further into Latvian territory.
