Lithuania Defense Services (LDS), a military equipment service company in Jonava district, owned by German companies KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetal Landsysteme, intends to invest about 50 million euros in a factory in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone and create about 100 new jobs. The factory will assemble the most modern Leopard 2A8 tanks.
The first tank collected in Lithuania is scheduled to be released in early 2028, and the rest until the end of 2030.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, the government plans to accelerate the implementation of Leopard 2A8 tanks. The vehicles are to be assembled in Lithuania, with the first vehicle rolling off the production line in 2028, and delivery of all vehicles is expected to be completed by the end of 2030.
