Lisa Demuth saw victory despite missing two key endorsements. How did she do it?
Demuth said her campaign’s 275,000 calls and statewide outreach helped her overcome Trump and state GOP endorsements for her rivals.
House Speaker Lisa Demuth won the Minnesota GOP gubernatorial primary on Aug 15, defeating MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and Kendall Qualls by roughly 45,000 votes.
Driven by an extensive grassroots effort, Demuth's campaign completed over 275,000 calls to Minnesotans tired of Democrats, according to statements made on Monday, Aug 17.
Financial resources favored Demuth, who held $456,000 compared to Qualls' $67,000 and Lindell's $88,000; she succeeded despite lacking endorsements from President Donald Trump or the Republican Party.
Qualls quickly backed Demuth after results, while Lindell pledged to self-fund a recount. Demuth expressed she feels 'confident' uniting GOP voters for the general election.
The general election will feature Demuth against Senator Amy Klobuchar, whom she began campaigning against immediately after Governor Walz named her as his 'hand-selected pick' of a candidate.
