Lindsay Clancy murder trial Day 16: Watch testimony livestream
Zeizel testified that Clancy reported hearing a male voice only on the night she killed her three children, prosecutors said.
Clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel returned to the witness stand on Wednesday, Aug. 19, continuing his testimony regarding Lindsay Clancy's mental state and reported symptoms of psychosis.
Prosecutors allege Clancy strangled her three children in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023; defense attorney Kevin Reddington argues she suffered from bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis, lacking criminal responsibility.
Zeizel testified that "psychosis doesn't lower your intellectual functioning," explaining everyday activities do not negate psychosis; he noted Clancy's persistent "intrusive thoughts" as a voice instructing her to harm herself.
During cross-examination, Prosecutor Buckingham questioned Zeizel about medical records from Tewksbury Hospital, challenging his assessment of Clancy's reported symptoms and mental state before the January 2023 killings.
The trial, now in its fourth week, continues with defense witnesses; closing arguments could take place as soon as Monday, Aug. 24, as the defense works through its witness list.
