Lidl's Loyalty Card Becomes Less Generous, Shoppers Say
Customers can earn £1 for every point spent and redeem rewards in Lidl’s new in-app marketplace, the company said.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Lidl launched its new Lidl Plus Points loyalty scheme, officially replacing the Coupon Plus program in the supermarket's app after it ended on Monday, May 4.
Lidl GB Chief Customer Officer Louise Weise stated the change follows customer feedback requesting greater reward flexibility. The previous Coupon Plus program had offered free items upon reaching monthly spend targets of £10, £50, or £100.
Customers now earn one point for every £1 spent at checkout, with points redeemable in the Rewards Marketplace for hundreds of items including free products and money-off vouchers.
To celebrate the launch, Lidl is offering double points on all fresh fruit purchases between May 5 and May 22. The app updates automatically, requiring no customer action to transition to the new scheme.
Customer reaction on Reddit is mixed, with shoppers expressing disappointment over the end of Coupon Plus. Users specifically noted missing the 'free big bag' of potatoes that was previously available under the old rewards structure.
