Report: Liberty G Sabrina Ionescu (Ankle) Out 2 Weeks
Sabrina Ionescu wore a boot after the injury, and coach Chris DeMarco said an MRI on Monday will determine her availability.
On Monday, the New York Liberty announced Sabrina Ionescu is expected to miss at least two weeks following a left foot injury sustained during Sunday's 79-67 preseason victory over the Connecticut Sun.
During the third quarter on Sunday, Ionescu landed awkwardly after driving to the basket, appearing to get her feet tangled with Sun forward Diamond Miller before limping to the locker room.
Coach Chris DeMarco reported Ionescu's outlook is "positive," while Liberty center Jonquel Jones said, "Obviously, it wasn't good to see," as the team awaits MRI results.
Friday, May 8, marks the WNBA's 30th season opener at Barclays Center, which the Liberty will play without their star guard during her two-week re-evaluation period.
After forming a "Big 4" by signing Satou Sabally to join Breanna Stewart, Jones, and Ionescu, the Liberty remain the odds-on favorite to win the 2026 WNBA Finals.
