Lewis Hamilton Under Threat as FIA Launches Bahrain Grand Prix Investigation
The stewards said Hamilton moved onto the racing line at 80-85 km/h, forcing Bortoleto to brake from about 240 km/h.
On Friday, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton received a warning from FIA stewards after impeding Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto during second practice at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.
A damaged right-hand mirror impaired Hamilton's visibility at Turn 9, and Scuderia Ferrari failed to provide radio warnings about the approaching Audi traveling at approximately 240 km/h.
Hamilton was traveling slowly at approximately 80-85 km/h when the closing speed reached approximately 155-160 km/h. Stewards determined he "unnecessarily impeded" the faster car by moving onto the racing line.
Scuderia Ferrari received a £10,000 fine while Hamilton was warned. The stewards stated the team "failed to provide its driver with appropriate information" as visibility was materially impaired.
Hamilton, who faced scrutiny in Madrid and Baku, attributed recent blocking incidents to 2026 engine regulations. He argued a lack of data on out-laps complicates maintaining necessary gaps, stating "none of us drivers want to get in trouble.
