Rangers Boss Derek McInnes Provides Update on 'Significant' Shankland Injury
Captain Lawrence Shankland's significant hamstring injury will sideline Rangers for several weeks, likely impacting upcoming Old Firm fixtures.
On Saturday, Rangers captain Lawrence Shankland suffered a "significant" hamstring injury during the 1-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Motherwell at Ibrox. The 31-year-old limped off after eight minutes.
Manager Derek McInnes stated the injury feels "similar" to one Shankland sustained at Hearts last year, when he missed more than two months. A scan scheduled for Monday will clarify the severity.
The striker will likely miss the Old Firm double-header against Celtic later this month and upcoming Scotland Nations League matches. Shankland had scored four goals in his first ten Rangers appearances before the injury.
Replacement Ryan Naderi scored the winning goal shortly after entering the match, providing immediate relief. McInnes confirmed the team has "good options" including Kevin Kelsy, Kim Minsu, and Bojan Miovski.
McInnes speculated that switching between artificial and grass surfaces may have increased vulnerability to injury. Rangers face compounded pressure with striker Youssef Chermiti already sidelined long-term with an ACL issue.
