Latvia Proposes Closing the Belarus Border to the General Public and Freight Transport

The ministry says the closure would curb irregular migration pressure and preserve border security resources, while the railway crossing for freight trains stays open.

The Ministry of the Interior is set to propose to the government that operations at the ‘Paternieki’ border crossing between Latvia and Belarus be suspended, according to a publicly available draft government decision prepared by the ministry.
