Tranquilized Bear Passes Out Atop Brick Wall in Los Angeles
California Department of Fish and Wildlife crews tranquilized the 275-pound bear, checked its health and fitted a tracking collar before release.
On Monday, California Department of Fish and Wildlife crews tranquilized a large bear roaming a Pacoima-area neighborhood, ending a pursuit that prompted lockdowns at three local schools.
Monday's incident follows two other bear sightings in the San Fernando Valley over the weekend, including a Saturday appearance in Shadow Hills and a Sunday sighting at the Hansen Dam Golf Course.
Wildlife officials identified the healthy male bear as 4-5 years old and weighing 275 pounds. "This area, like, you wouldn't expect a bear," said Isaac Ramirez from Downey.
Following the tranquilization on Borden Avenue, officials released the bear into the Angeles National Forest. Steve Gonzalez, a Fish and Wildlife spokesperson, called it a "no harm, no foul bear."
Officials tagged the bear and placed a tracking collar on it before release. While unconfirmed, authorities believe this animal is likely the same bear spotted throughout the weekend.
