Lafayette man sentenced to 40 years on drug-related charges
Prosecutors said the case involved 3.3 grams of methamphetamine and a handgun, and the defendant had prior felony and misdemeanor convictions.
On Wednesday, a Lafayette judge sentenced Defendant Perkins to prison following his recent conviction on drug-related charges, concluding the legal proceedings.
Authorities detained Perkins following a search of a residence near 10th Street and Cincinnati Street. Officers initiated the investigation after discovering illicit items on the property.
Investigators recovered 26.7 grams of a "crystalline substance," later identified as meth. Perkins admitted to dealing drugs and possessing a firearm during a police interview.
Co-Defendant Olvera received a 17-year sentence in February after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to the case involving Perkins.
Prosecutors secured the conviction citing Perkins' status as a habitual offender. The court considered multiple felony counts and prior criminal history when determining the sentence.
