The city of La Crosse shut down an ordinance proposing a new city administrator position. The position, which has been debated on for years, could be discussed again in two months.

This time, they came one vote short of passage. On Thursday, the La Crosse City Council cast eight votes in favor of hiring a city administrator, and five against. But since the plan had to pass by a two-thirds margin, it needed nine votes to be approved.
