Far-right candidate excluded from Kraków mayoral election after signature blunder
The candidate of the far-right Confederation (Konfederacja), one of Poland’s main political groups, has been disqualified from Kraków’s mayoral election after over 2,000 of the signatures from local residents collected in support of his candidacy were found to be invalid. My candidacy for Mayor of Krakow was not registered. We lacked valid signatures. I will not spin conspiracy theories, search for culprits, or shift blame onto anyone. I believed that submitting nearly 5,000 signatures would provide us with a sufficient margin of safety. As it turns out, I was wrong," Bartosz Bocheńczak, who was supposed to be the Confederation's candidate for Mayor of Krakow, announced on Monday before 8 p.m.
Everything indicates that the Confederation is left without a candidate in the Krakow mayoral elections. Bartosz Bocheńczak failed to collect the required number of signatures. New Hope president Sławomir Mentzen is already taking action.
He also left the post of head of the structures of the Małopolska Confederation.
"My candidacy for Mayor of Krakow was not registered. We lacked valid signatures," Bartosz Bocheńczak, who was supposed to be the Confederation candidate, wrote on social media. This means that Sławomir Mentzen's party will not run in the presidential race in Krakow. The party's central leadership has already reacted decisively to Bocheńczak's slip-up.
The Confederation may be without a candidate in the early elections for mayor of Krakow, according to the latest information. Bartosz Bocheńczak was more than 100 signatures short. "I messed up," he wrote on the X website. The deadline for submitting signatures passed on September 3rd.
