Raiders Coach Not Ready to Name Starting Quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders concluded their preseason schedule with an 18-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, in a contest featuring nine combined field goals and no touchdowns.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak split first-team reps between veteran Kirk Cousins and rookie Fernando Mendoza to evaluate both quarterbacks before naming a starter for the regular season opener.
Cousins completed 8 of 11 passes for 51 yards and guided Las Vegas to two field goals, while Mendoza finished 7-of-14 for 57 yards with one interception behind inconsistent offensive line protection.
Following the loss, Kubiak told reporters he will review game film before deciding, saying, "I still don't think we need to name anybody" regarding the quarterback competition.
Cousins emphasized the importance of the "long game," as the Raiders open the regular season against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13 with the quarterback decision still pending.
