Kim Yong-Beom, Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy, Resigns: Cheong Wa Dae
Kim Yong-beom stepped down after 15 months as Lee Jae Myung’s policy chief, as the president reshuffled six ministers amid falling approval ratings.
On Tuesday, President Lee Jae Myung accepted the resignation of chief presidential policy adviser Kim Yong-beom following a Cabinet reshuffle announced by the administration.
Public concerns over housing and rental costs weighed on sentiment, causing President Lee's approval rating to fall to 38.9% according to a Realmeter poll released on Aug 31, marking its first significant decline.
Speculation links Kim's departure to market turmoil surrounding single-stock leveraged ETFs. He served about 15 months as the administration's first presidential policy chief before stepping down.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung confirmed the broader Cabinet reshuffle included new ministers covering key economic roles such as economy, finance, land, and trade positions.
The administration faces mounting pressure to stabilize public sentiment, as Realmeter polling shows housing and rental costs remain primary drivers of dissatisfaction among South Korean voters.
The Blue House announced on the 1st that Kim Yong-beom, Chief of the Presidential Policy Office, has tendered his resignation. President Lee Jae-myung accepted his resignation. Kang Yoo-jung, the Senior Spokesperson for the Blue House, held a briefing this morning and stated, "Chief Kim tendered his resignation yesterday (the 31st of last month)." She added, "President Lee accepted the resignation today."
