<p>For the first time, the Russian Federation holds elections to the State Duma in the territories occupied after 2022, Russia conducts voting in the occupied parts of four regions of Ukraine. Kyiv called the elections illegal and urged not to recognize them.</p>
Ukraine today urged the international community not to recognize the results of the parliamentary elections held by the Russian authorities in occupied Ukrainian territories, as a warning for policies of forced russification in an attempt to legitimise the domain of these areas.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, on 17 September, accepted an appeal to parliaments and foreign governments, international organizations and parliamentary assemblies not to recognize the results of the elections to the State Council of Russia, which are taking place in the new regions of the Russian Federation and Crimea.
