Auger-Aliassime Makes Quick Exit From U.S. Open After Second-Round Loss to Khachanov
On Thursday, Russia's Karen Khachanov defeated Canadian third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 at the U.S. Open to reach the third round.
After Auger-Aliassime established a 3-0 lead at Louis Armstrong Stadium, a string of errors allowed Khachanov to recover and win the opening set tiebreaker.
Khachanov broke his opponent's serve seven times during the match, securing only his second top-10 victory at a Grand Slam tournament.
The Russian displayed confidence in the fourth set, establishing a 4-0 lead before closing with a massive serve that Auger-Aliassime failed to return.
Khachanov advances to face either Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi or Peruvian Ignacio Buse in the next round, having reached only two quarter-finals this year.
