Jury Weighs Whether Lindsay Clancy Is Criminally Responsible for Killing Her Children
Jurors will weigh whether Lindsay Clancy was legally responsible after experts debated postpartum psychosis and more than 10 witnesses testified.
- On Thursday, jurors began deliberating the fate of Lindsay Clancy following closing arguments in her triple murder trial. Clancy faces three counts of first-degree murder for the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
- The defense argues Clancy suffered from severe postpartum psychosis during the killings, while prosecutors counter that she was aware of her actions and planned the order in which to kill the children.
- Psychiatrist Jennifer Tufts testified that Clancy showed "no serious signs that her safety or anyone else's safety was at risk." Clancy had sought help previously and was placed on over a dozen medications.
- After prosecutors questioned witnesses about Clancy's Catholic faith, Judge William Sullivan denied a mistrial request. Sullivan instructed jurors the line of questioning was "absolutely inappropriate area of testimony."
- If convicted, Clancy faces life in prison without parole. If found not guilty due to lack of criminal responsibility, she would be committed to a state mental health facility.
