Trains cancelled and carriages sealed up over BED BUG infestation
The company said four trains were reported with bedbugs and two cases were confirmed before affected carriages were cleaned and returned to service.
Southeastern cancelled at least three services on Friday after staff discovered bedbugs inside train carriages, with the company confirming two cases out of four trains reported with potential infestations.
The infestation centers on the West Marina train care depot near Hastings, which serves commuters between London and Kent; Southeastern maintains bedbugs were contained to drivers' cabs only.
Railway insiders nicknamed one train the "Bedbug Express" after two carriages were locked, while some drivers refused to board affected trains, leading to two cancellations.
Oly Turner, Southeastern's head of drivers, said the company is "working closely with the company" to address the "very difficult" situation, emphasizing thorough train checks before service.
Residents near the West Marina depot expressed little surprise regarding the infestation; Lorraine, a local teacher, raised concerns about furniture outside a building marked "train crew messroom.
