Kent political, aerospace leaders on Governor’s Space Council
The council will advise Ferguson on industry growth, workforce needs and launch capability as Washington’s space sector employs more than 13,000 workers.
Governor Bob Ferguson named 23 members to the Governor's Space Council on September 28 to advise Washington on maintaining leadership in the commercial space economy.
Washington is home to more than 90 space companies employing more than 13,000 workers, generating approximately $4.6 billion in annual economic activity and $1.6 billion in payroll.
The council will "evaluate Washington's competitive position relative to other leading states and nations in the commercial space economy" while assessing infrastructure, supply chain capacity, and workforce needs.
Members include Kent Mayor Dana Ralph, Stoke Space CEO Andy Lapsa, and Blue Origin Chief Commercial Officer Michael Edmonds, representing government, industry, and education sectors.
Building on a legacy where Boeing workers constructed lunar rovers for Apollo missions between 1969 and 1971, Ferguson said the council will help the state "innovate and adapt" as the sector grows.
