Kelowna kids treated to free pair of shoes during Okanagan's first 4EveryKid event
The first Okanagan 4EveryKid event gave 50 Boys and Girls Club Okanagan children free shoes, and DSW said it has helped 300 kids in Canada this year.
On Thursday, Oct. 1, Designer Shoe Warehouse Kelowna hosted 50 children from the Boys and Girls Club Okanagan to select free footwear in the first such event held in the Okanagan.
In partnership with the charity Soles4Souls, DSW Market Leader Kevin Smith noted the company has supported 300 children across Canada this year through the initiative.
Seventeen staff from DSW Kelowna volunteered at the event, which organizers postponed from summer until Thursday due to wildfire threats in the Okanagan region.
BGC Okanagan Rutland Childcare Manager Jennifer Wilshusen described the experience as "pure excitement," noting children remained eager throughout the delay and will wear their shoes tomorrow.
Smith emphasized that rising costs have heightened the need for community support, stating "to treat low income families and give them something that puts a smile on their face is ever important to me" in the Interior.
