- On Monday, the National Investigation Agency court in Bengaluru sentenced Mohammed Shariq to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 94,000 for the 2022 Mangaluru blast.
- Shariq, who pleaded guilty on Sunday, was carrying a pressure cooker fitted with an IED in an autorickshaw on November 19, 2022, allegedly targeting the Kadri Manjunatha Temple.
- Convictions under the IPC, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and the Explosive Substances Act resulted in concurrent 10-year sentences for attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.
- Following the sentencing, Opposition Leader Ashoka accused the Congress on Tuesday of indulging in "appeasement politics" and downplaying the blast as "diversionary politics" for electoral gains.
- Judicial custody for second accused Syed Yasin has been extended until May 21, 2026, as investigations continue into the Islamic State-linked Shivamogga module's alleged terror incidents since 2020.
