Tragic Kite String Accident Claims Life of Motorcyclist
A banned Chinese kite string caused a fatal throat injury to a motorcycle rider despite ongoing police drives against illegal sales, officials said.
- On Wednesday morning around 11, Sanjaykumar Hosanamni, motorcyclist, died on a Bidar district national highway after a Chinese manja slit his throat near Talamadgi village, Chitgoppa taluk.
- Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti said police have been conducting a district-wide drive for the past 3 days ahead of the Sankranti festival, despite some shops still selling banned Chinese manja.
- A working father and lorry cleaner, Sanjaykumar was travelling to Humnabad to bring his daughter home for Sankranti, and his body was sent to Mannekhelli Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
- Mannekhelli police station said they seized banned manja from 2 to 3 places and warned shop owners of strict legal action.
- The incident underscores public-safety hazards posed by roadside manja, as police descriptions show it can cause deep neck cuts, highlighting risks for riders and families travelling during Sankranti despite district enforcement drives.
