Karachi Mayor’s Office Affected as Fire Breaks Out at KMC Building
Firefighters contained the blaze after it destroyed the mayor’s chamber, central office and furniture, with officials suspecting an electrical short circuit.
- On Tuesday, a fire broke out in the kitchen at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation head office on Jinnah Road, affecting the office of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
- Fire brigade officials stated an electrical short circuit is the suspected initial cause, with the blaze destroying precious furniture, LEDs, and reducing the mayor's chamber and central office to ashes.
- The incident comes a day after a separate fire at a factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone spread to an adjacent building, with fire brigade personnel deploying 18 fire tenders and two snorkels to control the blaze.
- Yusra Ali, the in-charge of Rescue, informed the press that teams managed to control around 50 per cent of the fire, though three people became unwell during the operation after it was reported at 1:45 PM.
- Rescue officials declared the entire factory building unsafe after a portion collapsed during operations, indicating it might take a further four to five hours to bring the fire under control.
