Kanye West's Russia Shows Cancelled, Organisers Confirm
The Moscow-based promoter said refunds will begin Oct. 12 after more than 100,000 tickets were sold for the two shows.
On Wednesday, Say Agency announced the cancellation of two Kanye West concerts scheduled for October 10 and 11 at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg. The 49-year-old rapper's shows will not proceed as planned.
Gazprom Arena officials previously stated the shows "cannot take place" because rental contracts had not been signed by Say Agency. The venue had initially promoted the concerts despite the unsigned agreement.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the planned performances, citing what she described as West's "glorification" of Hitler. West has faced numerous cancellations in European countries this year following past antisemitic remarks.
Ticket refunds will be available from Monday, October 12, with details about the rules and conditions for refunds to follow. Say Agency promised an official statement regarding the project's status in the near future.
West has faced performance bans across Europe, including visa denials in the UK and cancellations in Italy and France following backlash over his antisemitic remarks. Sources indicate he remains determined to perform again internationally.
The two concerts Ye was scheduled to give in Russia have been cancelled. The already sold-out shows were set to take place on October 10 and 11 at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, but were cancelled on Thursday.
