San Antonio Mayor Calls for Kanye West's July 4th Alamodome Concert to Be Cancelled
The mayor cited Ye’s antisemitic remarks and said the city should not host him in the city-owned venue.
On Saturday, San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones urged officials to cancel Kanye West's July 4 concert at the Alamodome, citing the musician's history of antisemitic remarks and hate speech.
Jones argued, "Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility." The mayor stated that public venues should not provide a platform for such rhetoric.
The Alamodome can accommodate more than 70,000 attendees, with Ticketmaster selling seats ranging from $127.50 to more than $1,460 for the "YE Front Row Experience." Ye announced the show last week.
Florida Senator Rick Scott recently called for Ye's performances in Tampa to be canceled, arguing that a taxpayer-supported stadium subsidizing such rhetoric is a "slap in the face" to Jewish communities.
Despite the pushback, the concert remains scheduled as Ye continues to face international cancellations, including recent venue withdrawals in Prague and Poland over his inflammatory comments.
