Judge's daughter stabbed to death by angry partner, court told
Prosecutors say Clifton George stabbed Annabel Rook after an argument and then triggered a gas explosion that badly damaged the home and next door property.
Prosecutors at Snaresbrook Crown Court opened the trial of Clifton George on Wednesday for the June 17, 2025, murder of Annabel Rook. George, 45, admitted to manslaughter but denies the murder charge.
Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones told jurors that George attacked Rook during a late-night argument after she demanded he leave. George allegedly stabbed his partner to death after flying into a rage when he discovered she had "lied" to him.
Following the stabbing, George reportedly attempted to "explode the house" by igniting a propane canister, causing an "enormous explosion." Neighbors Rhys Sullivan and Harriet Cosby found George bleeding in the garden shortly after.
Rook, daughter of retired Old Bailey judge Peter Rook, was found dead after the explosion. She co-founded MamaSuze, a London-based social enterprise supporting refugee and migrant women.
Prosecutors continue to pursue the murder charge despite George's guilty plea to manslaughter. The trial will examine the couple's crumbling relationship and events on Dumont Road.
