- On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 2-0 victory, as Jared Jones pitched seven innings of one-hit ball and Oneil Cruz hit a solo home run.
- Jones carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning until Colson Montgomery broke it with a double. The Pirates sought their seventh no-hitter, last accomplished by John Candelaria in 1976 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- Cruz homered to deep center in the fourth off Erick Fedde and singled in the eighth to knock in Jared Triolo. Pittsburgh limited the White Sox to just two hits, securing the shutout.
- Luke Weaver worked a clean eighth inning and Mason Montgomery recorded his 12th save for the Pirates. Pittsburgh won nine of its last 11 games while the White Sox lost eight of 11.
- Chicago's American League Central lead over idle Cleveland slipped to 1 1/2 games following the loss. Pittsburgh has not named a starter for its Friday afternoon game against the Cubs.
