John Gibson, Red Wings return favor, shut out Avalanche
- Detroit Red Wings ended a long Denver drought with a 2-0 road victory on Monday at Ball Arena, snapping an eight-game skid against the Colorado Avalanche dating to 2016.
- After a Sunday meeting, McLellan said, `We had a pretty direct meeting, and our group needed that`, following Detroit's 5-0 loss to Colorado two days earlier, with Necas and Landeskog absent.
- Marco Kasper opened the scoring on the first shift off a Lucas Raymond pass for his sixth goal, while John Gibson stopped 21 shots for his fourth shutout of the season.
- By shutting out Colorado, Detroit not only earned points but handed the Avalanche their first scoreless game of the season, moving within two points of the Atlantic Division lead.
- The Wings have one game left before the Olympic break, traveling Wednesday to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Mammoth, and Bednar said Landeskog and Necas should be ready for the Feb. 11 tournament.
