John Carlson's First Career Hat Trick Propels Ducks Past Sharks
Carlson scored twice on the power play and Anaheim converted 2 of 3 chances, ending a six-game skid and improving its playoff position.
On Thursday, Ducks defenseman John Carlson recorded his first career hat trick, leading Anaheim to a 6-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Ducks, who rebounded after being booed by fans during a 5-0 loss to Nashville earlier in the week.
In his 17th NHL season, Carlson became the third defenseman in league history to record a hat trick after his 36th birthday, joining Mathieu Schneider and Nicklas Lidstrom.
Teammates center Leo Carlsson, Alex Killorn, and Frank Vatrano scored additional goals, while goaltender Lukas Dostal made 18 saves to keep Anaheim one point behind Edmonton in the Pacific Division.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Anaheim remains tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for second place, positioning the team to end its seven-year postseason drought.
