Jim Gillespie Reveals Reasons Rangers Appointed 'Klopp-Type Manager' Derek McInnes
Jim Gillespie said Rangers wanted an aggressive, front-foot manager, with McInnes fitting the model after a strong season at Hearts.
On Monday, Rangers CEO Jim Gillespie defended the hiring of manager Derek McInnes at a shareholder meeting in Glasgow, citing the need for an aggressive, "Klopp-type" coach.
Rangers officials sought a manager fitting a specific "game model," identifying McInnes as a "Klopp-style manager" who prioritizes aggressive, front-foot football over a "Guardiola-type" approach.
Gillespie detailed McInnes's extensive experience, noting he has managed over 500 games and comes "just off the back of a great season at Hearts," where he narrowly missed the Premiership title.
The appointment faces early scrutiny as the team has failed to win in three competitive games, including a home defeat to Hibs on Sunday with two losses and one draw.
Gillespie emphasized the club maintained a long-term contingency list for the appointment, stating, "Derek will bring success to the club," despite the difficult start.
