Prime Minister Rob Jetten apologized to the Moluccan community on Sunday afternoon at the unveiling of the Ulu Kora National Monument in Rotterdam. "The historical injustice inflicted upon the first generation of Moluccans has still not been clearly acknowledged and articulated," he said.

Will Rob Jetten finally apologize on behalf of the government for the harsh treatment of Moluccans following their arrival in the Netherlands? That is the question hanging over the unveiling of a national monument in Rotterdam on Sunday. Journalist Tonny van der Mee – grandson of a Moluccan KNIL soldier – is writing an open letter to the Prime Minister ahead of the commemoration.

If everything goes as planned, Prime Minister Jetten will offer apologies to the Moluccan community on Sunday. Eli Matitahatiwen, chairman of the Dewan Wijkraad Maluku in Breda, the Moluccan neighborhood council, believes apologies alone are not good enough.
