Jets Waive Cade York in a Close Kicking Competition, Giving the Job to Jason Sanders
The move ends a months-long competition after York missed three of five field goals in Monday practice and struggled in the second preseason game.
- On Tuesday, the New York Jets waived kicker Cade York, ending a months-long competition for the starting role with veteran Jason Sanders.
- Head coach Aaron Glenn and his staff finalized the roster after neither player consistently performed during preseason practices and games.
- At Monday's practice, York went 3-for-5 on field goal attempts, while Sanders went 2-for-5, missing from 38, 43, and 53 yards.
- To say that Sanders "won" the starting kicking job wouldn't necessarily be accurate, as the team's kicking problems appear to persist despite York's exit.
- The Jets may still pursue alternatives before the regular season begins, as free agents like Brandon McManus, Graham Gano, and Matt Prater remain available.
