Jets Rookie QB Klubnik Is Confident, Not Cocky as He Prepares for Debut
First-round picks and late-round rookies are battling for roles, while Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq works back from hernia surgery, coach Aaron Glenn said.
The Jets play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium tomorrow night at 7 p.m., while the Giants host the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday as both teams evaluate rookies for prominent roles and 53-man roster spots.
Both teams prioritized defense in April, with the Jets drafting Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey and the Giants selecting Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese, while also adding Oregon tackle Francis Mauigoa to strengthen their offensive lines.
Giants coach Harbaugh said last Friday that rookies are "pushing for playing time," while Jets head coach Aaron Glenn noted that all rookies must seize their placements by performing effectively in practice and games.
Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq is recovering from hernia surgery in May and suffered what Glenn described as "a little setback" during training camp, though the coach remains confident the rookie will be ready for the regular season.
After 15 seasons without a playoff appearance, the Jets hope their draft class will transform the franchise; the Giants have reached the playoffs twice since 2011 and similarly expect these youngsters to change their fortunes.
