State investigators will share preliminary findings after a six-month probe into the fire that killed reporter Jessi Pierce and her three children.
- On Thursday, State Fire Marshal Dan Krier announced the March fire killing hockey reporter Jessi Pierce and her three children was accidental, caused by overheating electrical equipment in a home office.
- Crews arrived at the Richard Avenue home just before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, where they 'found a fully involved structure fire' that claimed the lives of Pierce and her children Hudson Hinrichs, Cayden Hinrichs, and Avery Hinrichs.
- Using fire modeling software, investigators determined the blaze originated in an office, with the smoke alarm closest to the bedrooms activating about four minutes after the fire began.
- White Bear Lake Fire Chief Greg Peterson called the event an 'absolute tragedy,' while a GoFundMe fundraiser for Mike Hinrichs, husband of Pierce, has raised more than $248,000 of its $300,000 goal from about 2,600 donations.
- Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Amanda Swenson urged residents to maintain working smoke alarms and practiced escape plans, which she said 'can provide critical layers of protection and give people more time to recognize a fire and get out safely.
