Former K-State Hoops Coach Jerome Tang Returning to Baylor
Tang returns to Scott Drew’s Baylor staff after four seasons at Kansas State, where he went 71-57 and reached the Elite Eight in 2023.
On Tuesday, Jerome Tang finalized a multi-year deal to return to Baylor as associate head coach, reuniting with head coach Scott Drew after a four-year absence.
Kansas State fired Tang for cause on February 15, 2026, following a postgame outburst in which he described his players' efforts as "embarrassing," though Tang disagreed with the termination characterization.
Baylor's defensive ratings plummeted since Tang's 2022 departure, falling to 220th in 2023, 187th in 2024, 163rd in 2025, and 242nd in 2026, compared to top-30 finishes during his final three seasons.
Drew described the reunion as returning to "family," highlighting their shared history leading Baylor to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances during their 19-year tenure together in Waco before Tang departed.
Returning to Waco, Tang seeks to rebuild his career and bring defensive expertise to a program that has declined significantly since his departure, positioning both coaches to contend nationally again.
