- On Friday, Gresini Ducati rider Alex Marquez set a new lap record at Motegi, topping the Japanese Grand Prix practice session with a 1m42.811s, finishing 0.076s clear of Pedro Acosta.
- Practice was halted early when home hero Ai Ogura's Trackhouse Aprilia suffered an engine failure, forcing officials to stop the session for track cleanup with over 51 minutes remaining.
- Most championship contenders secured direct entry to Qualifying 2, but last year's Motegi winner Francesco Bagnaia faces Q1 after ending Friday 16th, while Ogura could manage only 15th.
- Despite late crashes, Honda riders Diogo Moreira and Johann Zarco managed to hang on to top 10 spots, while Marco Bezzecchi showed renewed confidence fighting at the front.
