Delhi Metro Shuts Entry-Exit at 11 Stations as Security Tightens Amid Oct 2 Protest
Authorities deployed extra security and imposed prohibitory orders as organizers expected 3,000 to 4,000 people to join the protest.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed entry and exit at 11 stations on Friday, including Rajiv Chowk and New Delhi, amid heightened security ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Organized by the All India Students' Association, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha, and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan, the gathering demands Kumar's resignation citing alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision exercise.
Delhi Police denied permission for the assembly on Thursday and imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, deploying Central Armed Police Forces across New Delhi District to prevent unauthorized gatherings.
Police sources estimate around 3,000 to 4,000 participants might attend the demonstration, though interchange facilities remain open at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi, and Central Secretariat despite the broader closures.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia urged public participation in the movement, joining students and activists demonstrating against the Election Commission's handling of electoral roll revisions and the poll panel's broader functioning.
