NIA Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Pak-Based LeT Commander

The court said investigators could not secure Mohammad Yaqoob’s attendance and linked him to terror activities after arrests and grenade recovery.

  • On Tuesday, a special NIA court in Jammu issued a non-bailable warrant for Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba operational commander Mohammad Yaqoob, citing his involvement in terror activities across Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The investigation stems from the earlier arrest of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat at Gujar Tent, Pandach, where authorities recovered a Chinese grenade and 15 live rounds, leading to dismantling of a terror network involving Abdullah Rajput and Khubaib.
  • Yaqoob, also known as Abu Sumama, Sumama Ilyas, and Waris Ali, operates from Islamabad as a key handler; the Union Home Ministry designated him a terrorist on July 4 for coordinating support for LeT cadres in India.
  • With the accused at large, the court forwarded the warrant to the Deputy Inspector General, NIA Jammu, for execution under the Unlawful Activities Act, noting standard means could not secure his attendance.
  • Yaqoob is the second top LeT terrorist against whom the NIA Jammu court has issued an NBW since July 8, following an earlier warrant for chief Hafiz Saeed regarding the Pahalgam terror attack case.
