- U.S. team captain Snedeker praised Koivun, saying, "I feel like he's handled the adjustment really well." Justin Thomas added, "He's obviously really competitive and he's obviously really talented."
- The Americans have won the Presidents Cup 10 times since 1994 and claimed the opening session eight of the last nine times. Collin Morikawa said, "History is history, and it's nice to be a part of history on the good side."
- International captain Geoff Ogilvy aims for a winning session, recalling how his team responded to a shutout two years ago at Royal Montreal. "That's the job tomorrow is to win a session," Ogilvy said.
